Willow Tree Figurines
Classic Figurine Gifts from Willow Tree
So our first proper blog post has to be about one of our most popular ranges here at Present Days; Willow Tree figurines.
The story begins in the nineties, when artist Susan Lordi began using family and friends as models from which to capture a moment in time. It was January 2000 when Willow Tree was introduced to the public.
Her keen observation of the human form is further inspired by ballet, modern dance, nature, and her personal experiences with family and friends.
Susan Lordi hand carves each Willow Tree sculpture, so every figure is unique it's own way. Expression is revealed through gestures such as a tilt of the head, placement of the hands or a turn of the body.
Susan tries to capture a moment in time, or express a feeling. Pieces are cast from her original carving, and then individually painted by hand. Softly washed colors, carved and metal accents, and representative icons of nature mark Susan's work.
The simplicity of form and the absence of facial features signify Willow Tree. It is Susan's hope that these pieces be meaningful to both giver and receiver.
